1949
The National Air Races, which included
the King's Cup Air Race, held at Elmdon,
Birmingham from Friday 29 July until Monday
1 August. Flown by C.A. Nepean Bishop it
was painted silver at the time but was unplaced.
1950
The National Air Races,
which included the King's Cup Air Race,
held at Burnaston, Wolverhampton on 17 June.
Flown by C.A. Nepean Bishop. Unplaced. The
Daily Express International Air Race along
the South Coast from Hurn to Herne Bay on
16 September. Flown by C.A. Nepean Bishop.
Unplaced.
1951
The National Air Races,
which included the King's Cup Air Race,
which was to have been held at Hatfield
on 23 June but was cancelled due to the
weather - I can confirm this as I cycled
there especially and was mighty disappointed!
Flown by C.A. Nepean Bishop.
1960
London - Cardiff Air Race
from White Waltham to Rhoose, held on 3
June. Flown by W.H. Bailey. Unplaced. The
National Air Races, which included the King's
Cup Air Race, held at Baginton, Coventry
on 8/9 July. Flown by W.H. Bailey. Unplaced.
1961
Norton Griffiths Challenge
Trophy Race, held at Rhoose on 3 June. Flown
by S.M. Aarons over three laps of 11.6 miles
each, who won the trophy in the Class 2
at 133 m.p.h. London - Cardiff Air Race
and the King's Cup Air Race, held at Baginton,
Coventry on 15 July. Flown by S.M. Aarons.
Unplaced.
1962
The King's Cup Air Race,
held at Baginton, Coventry on 16/18 Aug.
Flown by S.M. Aarons. Unplaced.
From
my records, it would appear that for the
last three years of its racing life it was
painted cream with crimson trim, it retained
its spats and had the rear cockpit faired
over. Peter Amos 2006.

| Racing
& Beyond....
Re-reg to John Albert Perkins,
Douglas, Isle of Man until 17.6.65, canc
20.9.65 and re-reg to Herbert Henry &
Samuel Richman both of Plymouth and Ian
Walsh of Bere Alston 2.12.65 (G-AIUA was
severely damaged on ldg Roborough 26.9.65
and this would probably account for its
late re-reg), canc 25.8.66 and re-reg to
Raymond Bing Limbocker, Edward Allen Wright,
Amos Eugene Gremore (an American),&
William John Lawrence all of the Great Yarmouth
area 2.1.67, C of A expired 13.7.67, believed
to have been at North Denes between 1963
and 1968, canc 6.5.68 and re-reg to Amos
Eugene Gremore, Great Yarmouth 27.6.68 with
the intention of it being rebuilt with wings
from G-ANWO but this did not happen, fuselage,
fin, rudder, elevator, fairings, engine
mounts, cowls and centre section spars later
acquired by Sandy Topen at Cranfield, seen
in a hangar at Felthorpe (along with the
wing from G-ANWO alongside) 21.8.68 by Bernard
Martin, canc 23.3.73 as PWFU, re-reg to
Stephen Gotts & Michael Ray Gorman,
both of Cambridge 18.2.74, stored at Cambridge
then Duxford while being restored to a single
aircraft by the Cambridge Aircraft Preservation
Group by 6.76, canc 2.11.77 and re-reg to
the Trustees of The Shuttleworth Collection,
Old Warden in 1977, who apparently only
wanted it for its metal fittings etc (they
also acquired the remains of G-ANWO, presumably
for the same purpose from Sandy Topen, who
also believed that he ‘owned’
G-AIUA as well but had left it in a barn
at Old Warden and not yet collected it!),
at some time the centre section was given
by the Cambridge Aircraft Preservation Group
to the East Anglian Aviation Society, to
assist them in the rebuild of G-AKPF, remains
acquired by Adrian Brook and moved to his
home in West Sussex 12.5.87, sold to Bob
Trickett, Norfolk 8.9.00 for restoration
to flying condition but this was later abandoned
and they were then sold to Richard Hukins
in Kent who later exchanged them with Daniel
Hunt and Kevin Hunt of The Wings Museum,
Redhill Aerodrome, for a couple of relic
wartime aero-engines in 8.03.
